A Message from the Superintendent
08/02/04
Dear Nespelem School Folks,
Thank you for welcoming the Higgins Family to your school and community. We enjoyed the Pow-Wow with all the singing and dancing, and the feast at the grounds. One high point for me was the Remembrance of the Veterans. As a veteran (USMC) I was moved by this experience. Thank you! I had the privilege of being invited and attending the celebration of the roots and berries at the Longhouse this past Sunday. I am learning a lot. I appreciate you allowing me to participate.
I will be serving as the Nespelem School District Superintendent/Principal. I have been meeting with staff members, students, parents, and patrons, and my excitement for the start of school grows with each day!
You are invited to a Welcome Back Evening on Monday, August 30th, from 5:00 &endash; 8:00 p.m. The welcome will include a teacher orientation and a barbecue for the entire family. So, pack up the car with your children and family and join us for an evening of visiting. Bus routes will begin on Tuesday, August 31st.
Our first full day of school will be Tuesday, August 31st. School will begin at 8:15 a.m. and finish at 2:50 p.m., with the bus schedule being the same as last year.
Just a quick reminder: Half-Day Preschool will be in the afternoons from 11:30 &endash; 2:45, Tuesday through Friday. Kindergarten will be FULL Days Tuesday through Friday. Please be watching for a letter from the Preschool and Kindergarten teachers with information about testing. Also, enclosed is the Nespelem District Calendar so you will be able to plan for the various activities during the school year.
Students (6th, 7th, and 8th graders) planning on participating in fall sports need to get their physicals completed before participating in any practices. The school will continue to encourage academic success by using grade checks for athletic participation. NOTE: Volleyball practice will start the first day of school.
Breakfast and lunch will be served the first day of school. Breakfast and lunch tickets need to be purchased in the morning, before school. Prices for the 2004-2005 School Year are:
Student Regular Breakfast .60Student Reduced Breakfast .30
Milk .25
Student Regular Lunch .75Student Reduced Lunch .40
Please remember that state regulations don't allow 'charging' of meals.
A group of parents and staff members met to review the Student Guide to Citizenship (Handbook). Ideas and suggestions were shared, and some changes were made. The new Guide will be available the middle of August. However, we wanted to encourage you to take a quick look at the enclosed portion titled Appropriate Dress. We have enclosed this so you would have it as a guide when you purchase your student's clothes for the start of school.
I want to meet you.. My door is open to you. I encourage you to stop by for a visit or to share any concerns, questions, or comments you may have. My office is located in the school and my house is right next door. My home phone is 634-8507.
Truly Yours.
