Brooke
Conant The
Project:
Scientific
Method Project/Pop-Corn My goal was to
learn the scientific method-- a step by step plan to do
research and to share information. I used to think
there were only yellow pop-corn kernels , but now I know
there are white kernels too. The biggest
obstacle was writing the step by step plan because I had to
think of my own instuctions to follow and be very specific;
my text had to be understandable to other people so that
they wouldnt have to do the same project. Two things I
learned are how pop-corn kernels pop.
A
hard shell surrounds the moist and pulpy heart of the corn
kernel. When the kernel gets hot the moisture turns to steam
and the heart begins to grow, then bursts the hard
shell. Yellow
kernels taste better and are fluffier than the white
kernels. Next time, I will
pop the kernels with the air popper and see if the results
are different. The
Project:Washington
State History/Social Studies The point of
doing this was to learn about the state that I live in.
I used to hate
history, but now I think its pretty interesting. The biggest
obstacle was doing all the reports because I do not like
taking notes and that's what I had to do a lot
of. Two things I
learned are where all the volcanoes are located and their
names. Next time, I would
put more time and effort into my work to get a better grade
then I got. The
Project: Reading/Taking
notes I had to take notes
for a lot of things and some of them are essays, reports,
projects, and more. I used to think
notes weren't all that bad, but now I.am sick of taking
notes. The biggest
obstacle was putting all the notes in my own words and
writing the sources. Two things I
learned are that it's easier if you understand what you're
reading and then turning the sentence around. Next time, I would
like it better if I didn't have to take notes. My goal was
to learn how to write good poems. To me, a good poem
rhymes. I used to not know
how to write poems, but now I can. The biggest
obstacle was rhyming and making sense. Two things I
learned are writing poems is emotional and fun. Next time, I would
try to write a poem about a good friend of mine.
