On December 3rd, 1999, Mars Polar Lander will complete its eleven month journey to Mars.

Mars Polar Lander will measure climatic data and analyze soil samples to look for water, a necessary element for future missions with humans on board.

Students designed their own spacecraft, deciding they will need to:

Water could exist as water vapor in the thin carbon dioxide atmosphere, frozen underground, and frozen in the polar ice caps. The Mars Polar Lander will land near the southern ice cap.
