Question:

What effect does freezing temperature have on water?

What will happen if we freeze waterin a plastic bottle?

Hypothesis:

After the water freezes the water/ice will expand.

 The will explode

The lid will pop off

Observation:

I completely filled the bottle with water making sure all the air bubbles where out I tightly capped the bottle and put in to a plastic bag. When I went to lunch I put it into the school freezer for the night.

Method:

The three days later I checked the bottle of water to discover that one side of the bottle had been bulged out.

Conclusion:

The freezing temperatures froze the water making it expand. My theory had been correct although I did doubt it.

Application:

In the real world, the water get into the pavements small cracks and freezes than expands which causes the pavement to crack, There seem to be no solution to this problem.
