Nine Planets

This is a summary of the Planetary Web Quest at: http://students.itec.sfsu.edu/edt628/hovey/index.html

Introduction:

What planet would you colonize?

The Task :

You are going to choose a planet to live on and give your reasons why that planet is the best choice. Your reasons will be based on history, geography, pictures, environment, and location details.

The Process :

Gather a team together and brainstorm about planets. Make a list of the planets in our solar system and make sure everybody gets a copy. Choose three planets to research.

Each person choose a job to find different information. This information will help you decide which planet is best to live on.

Each team member chooses a job (see below). You may want to work with others with the same job to find information. Then meet back with your team to share what you learned. Each team chooses their own planet to colonize.

The Jobs:

Mission Commander, Photographer, Environmental Specialist, Geographical, Engineer, Planetery Historian

Mission Commander : The Mission Commandder does the loction of the planets

which is the furthest and the closest to the sun.

Photographer: Find pictures of each the planet. Can you tell the planets apart? Be prepared to tell each of the team members so the team members tell the planets apart.

Environmental Specialist: Tells what the atmosphere conditons and if the planets have conditions like the Earth.

Geographical Engineer: What is the terrain of each-planet- watery, mountainous, gasous? Are there any planets similar to the earth?

Planetary Historian:We came to learn about planets. Are the planet's aspects good or evil throughout human history? What is the particular planet's history?

Remember:

People with the same jobs may search together to find the information.

Each person looks for his/her information on the team's three planets. Then join back in your teams and share the information. Each team then chooses the planet they think best to colonize.
