China

Introduction

China is a huge country with many interesting people, places, and problems. For many years outsiders could not visit China. Today, people want to learn all about China. You will find information and create a paper or computer scrapbook with pictures and captions explaining about interesting people, places, maps, stories, facts, and problems.

The Task

Your team is in charge of the brochure department for "Tours Unlimited." Many people have been wanting to travel to China, but need more information about where to go.

Create a paper or computer scrapbook with pictures and captions explaining about interesting people, places, maps, stories, facts, and problems from China so your tourists know where to go in China.

The Roles

Take turns at these roles:

Computer Technician: manages the computer as directed by other members

Morale Officer: encourages people to agree and compliments people on their work effort

Reader: reads the information

Editor: checks for accuracy in information

ALL: Direct the computer tech

The Process

(how to do it)

1. Surf the internet on the sites listed below and save interesting people, places, maps, stories, facts, and problems that have to do with this project. You need to be prepared to share why you chose what you did, and what it means to you.

2. Copy any words you want by dragging across the words, then use the Edit - Copy command on the menubar.

3. Paste the words into a word processor document. You can print out a copy if you want to make a paper scrapbook.

4. Save images by holding the mouse down and dragging it to a picture folder you have created on the desktop. Check with the authors of the page to see if any copyright rules apply. Usually students are allowed to download images that will only be used in the classroom. A good practice is to use the email link on the page that has an image you want and ask permission.

You may print out the images and create a paper scrapbook, or else paste the images you've downloaded into a publishing program like Microsoft Word or Microsoft PowerPoint to display your collection of images.

5. Label what your image tells about China. Tell why you chose the picture and what it means to you.

6. Once you have created your scrapbook, go over it carefully so that you can give clear and thoughtful reasons the things you collected are especially important.
