Directions: Follow the steps below to create a finished report.

1. Choose an appropriate, specific topic that is of interest to you and that is related to the areas we are currently studying.
2. Reading: Research and take notes in your own words to include main ideas, supporting details, and technical vocabulary correctly spelled.
3. English--prewriting: Use your notes to create a web or outline for your essay, or highlight your notes and number the items in a logical order for a report.
4. English--Writing ideas/writing process: Write a first draft report from your notes and web/outline in your own words in logical order and in paragraphs.
5. English--revision in writing process for organization and word choice:
6. Revise the draft into an essay that includes:
   1. Proper form (essay organization):
      1. title
      2. an introduction with thesis statement, main subtopics, and grabber beginning
      3. body with paragraphed ideas based on main subtopics
      4. conclusion with summary of ideas and a statement that leaves the reader with a thought about your main point.
   2. Word choice: vivid verbs, nifty nouns, alliteration, simile, imagery, "mind movie" details, technical (science and social studies) vocabulary; title
7. Visual understanding through graphics: Create an illustration (picture, graph, chart, map) for your topic.
8. English--conventions in writing process: Edit your work for:
   1. spelling
   2. margins
   3. punctuation
   4. grammar
   5. complete and varied sentences
   6. paragraphs
   7. neatness
9. English--presentation: Put all the work into a neat booklet that includes:
   1. cover
   2. title page (title and author)
   3. illustration (picture, graph, chart, map)
   4. report
   5. source page (title, author, pages or URL address of the source of your information)
   6. back cover.
10. Tuck your notes and drafts into the back of your report booklet.
11. Self-evaluate your work.
12. Turn in.

You will be graded for reading comprehension, content (science, social studies) knowledge, English writing traits: ideas/revision for word choice and organization (including prewriting, first draft, revision, English grammar and conventions, and English presentation (organization of report).

Follow the general directions above, but each member of the group researches and writes part of the report.

Can you organize a report with a cover, title page, illustration (picture, graph, chart, map), report, bibliography, back cover?

Science:

Can you understand a concept: its main ideas, supporting details, and technical vocabulary?

Directions&emdash;to do:

1. Decide in your groups what each person will research on the topic EAGLES. Topics are: anatomy, behaviors, care of young, migratory patterns, range, habitat.

2. Read and take notes on those pages in your own words to include main ideas, supporting details, and technical vocabulary correctly spelled.
